Benefits of Taking a Vacation

As kids, being out of school and seeing nothing but weeks of freedom and sunshine was what we lived for. But it’s easy to forget that carefree feeling we used to get when we become working adults. We have heavy workloads, deadlines, meetings and so forth. Many working professionals have a minimum of vacation days to use during the year, but a lot don’t actually take them. Not only are vacations good for your health, but they may also help productivity at work as well.

Productivity improvesNot only are vacations good for your health, but they may also help productivity at work as well.

Research suggests that when high-level professionals take time off, they are significantly more productive than those who spend more time working. When professionals take vacation time, they tend to foster their creativity, reconnect with themselves and return to work fully refreshed and refocused. Vacations prolong the ability to think clearly, thus improving at  job responsibilities and overall performance.

Relationships improve

I think we can all agree that vacations make people happy. When we return from a vacation, our bonds with one another are strengthened because we feel better. Relationships are able to improve when people rest, reduce their stress levels and relax. When we don’t take vacations we tend to be cranky, irritable and feel much older, experiencing both physical and emotional pain more often.

Stress reduces

We all need time off from work and our regular schedules. Breaking our daily routines can help relieve stress, so not having any plans, getting more sleep and simply doing nothing helps us more than we think. Leave the worries that occupy our minds everyday behind when on vacation and your body will feel light and carefree again.

When you go on your next vacation, visit us at Cleone Gardens in Fort Bragg, CA. You’ll fall in love with our cozy hotel and lodging surrounded by lush garden landscapes. Reserve your room with us today so you can look forward to a relaxing vacation!

Feel at Ease When Traveling With Your Dog on the Plane

With the first official day of summer shortly approaching, you’re probably thinking about all of the trips you want to take to fill your summer days with fun adventure. But you can’t fully enjoy all of the fun times without your dog can you?Luckily, traveling with pets has become a lot easier thanks to pet-friendly airlines and hotels.

Luckily, traveling with pets has become a lot easier thanks to pet-friendly airlines and hotels like Cleone Gardens Inn. If you’re planning on visiting us in Fort Bragg, CA and need to travel by plane, read these tips on how to make plane rides easier for your pets and you!

Visit your vet ahead of time

Many airlines require proof of your pet’s good health and recent vaccinations before flying. Look up the rules for your airline and schedule a visit to your vet prior to your vacation. At the vet, be sure to discuss your dog’s age, health and breed since some dogs such as pugs and bulldogs have respiratory problems due to heat or lack of oxygen.

Approved carrier

To avoid being stressed at the airport, make sure your dog’s carrier is approved by your airline. If your pet is traveling in the cabin with you then a soft-sided carrier will work but as cargo the carrier must be in a hard-sided crate. Also try introducing your dog to the carrier they’ll be using so they become familiar and comfortable.

Pet relief stations

Learn about the airports you’ll be flying in and out of before taking off.  As of August 2016, federal regulation requires airports that serve more than 10,000 passengers per year to have pet relief stations available in every terminal. Pet Friendly Travel has a list of the airports that provide animal relief areas inside the terminal, post security. Some airports have scratchy grass areas while others offer real grass and play rooms. Refer to the list before bringing your pooch along with you on your next adventure so you’ll feel more at ease.

Once you’re on the plane your dog will probably settle down and accept what’s happening, so there is no need to worry the entire time if you follow these three simple steps beforehand. We are a very pet friendly hotel here at Cleone Gardens Inn, and will provide you with information about dog friendly places and beaches within the area. Call us today at 800-400-2189 to book your pet friendly room.

This Local Brewery Just Launched a New IPA for a Great Cause

Just off the Mendocino Coast of California, we in Fort Bragg have a special place in our hearts for the marine mammals that grace our coastal waters, including the Stellar sea lion. In support of this magnificent creature, one of our favorite local breweries – North Coast Brewing Company – recently introduced a new IPA to their craft lineup.

Called the North Coast Stellar IPA, this hoppy brew draws awareness to the declining population of Stellar sea lions.

Often seen off the Northern coast of California, these marine mammals are an intrinsic part of the coastal ecosystem and our home.

North Coast Brewing Company will make a contribution to marine mammal research for every bottle, case and keg of North Coast Stellar IPA that’s sold, giving you a very good reason to sample this beer during your coastal California stay.

Brewbound.com describes this craft brew as having, “bright notes of grapefruit, muscat, pennyroyal and spruce tips.” To us, it sounds like a truly refreshing yet hoppy beer to enjoy on a fall or winter afternoon!

Proceeds of this India Pale Ale will be going to two local organizations: The Noyo Center for Marine Science in Fort Bragg and The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, as well as the Marine Mammal Research Unit at The University of British Columbia.

Located less than ten minutes away from Cleone Gardens Inn, North Coast Brewing Company is a highly recommended tourist stop with a rich history.

The brewery also boasts more than 70 national and international awards, which give us confidence that any stout or ale you taste is sure to be exceptional.

Now that we have you dreaming of a relaxing dinner on the coast with a crisp specialty brew in hand, all that’s left to do is book your stay at Cleone Gardens Inn and grab a case of Stellar IPA.

We look forward to seeing you here on the Mendocino Coast!

Who Doesn’t Love a Soup and Chili Cook-Off?

Have you been craving a hearty bowl of flavorful soup or chili jam packed with your favorite ingredients? If you’re visiting the Fort Bragg area during the weekend of October 22nd, you’ll definitely need to check out this one event that will satisfy that craving once and for all!

This year marks the Fifth Annual Soup and Chili Cook-Off in Fort Bragg, CA and it’s always been a favorite fall event for both local residents and visitors to the area. After all, when you think of fall, what else comes to mind besides apple picking, pumpkin carving and wine tasting? Soup and chili, of course!

The great thing about this event is that participants can come from all different backgrounds.

Whether that’s a beloved restaurant defending its title, a local business throwing its hat in the ring for the fun of it or just a good-spirited lone ranger looking to show off his edible creations, everyone has a shot at being crowned number one! Sample one or all of them – the choice is yours!

In the past, this event has featured loaded baked potato soup, chicken noodle soup, and even crab chowder. It’s always a treat learning what new concoctions will be presented each year. In addition to good food and company, the event also features door prizes, a silent auction, and a no-host bar.

This local event benefits the Fort Bragg Food Bank, a nonprofit organization known for distributing food to those in need throughout Mendocino County.

Th Cook-Off is fun for people of all ages to attend, so feel free to bring the whole family along! If you thought your grandmother’s famous chicken noodle soup was the best you’ve ever tasted, or your mother’s chili blew everyone else’s out of the water, you might want to think again.

For those staying at the beautiful Cleone Gardens Inn during the weekend of the big event, you’re in luck!

We boast beautiful, comfortable, and homey rooms for you to relax in after filling up on soup and chili. The best part is, you won’t have to travel far to get from our Inn to the Cook-Off! Pentecost Hall (where this event is being held) is a less than 10 minute drive!

Enjoy Barrels of Fun at the Beer, Bison & Bluegrass Fundraiser!

The Fourth Annual Beer, Bison and Bluegrass Fundraiser will make its way to the Fort Bragg area once again, and it’s expected to be another great year.

We have no doubt that they will keep the beer flowing, the music playing and the bison sizzling on the grill for your enjoyment.

Be sure to mark this event down in your calendar! On October 8th, this annual fundraiser event will kick off for Parents and Friends, a non-profit organization that allows adults with developmental disabilities to become involved in the local community. The organization strives to promote independence among each developmentally disabled adult, which is certainly a cause that we believe everyone could get behind.

What we and the rest of the Mendocino community love so much about this event is that aside from the wonderful cause you’re supporting, it won’t be just any old kind of food and drink you’ll be enjoying throughout the day.

As the name suggests, you can enjoy beer from local breweries, such as the famous North Coast Brewing Company, the Lost Coast Brewery and Mendocino Brewing to name a few.

As for the food, this triple B fundraiser features an organic bison burger BBQ, which (in our book) makes it a bit more special than your average burgers and brats event! Last but not least, for those with a sweet tooth, you don’t want to forget to grab yourself a tasty treat from Cowlick’s Ice Cream – a must-have any time you’re stopping through the Fort Bragg area!

After giving yourself plenty of time to digest all of that deliciousness, be sure to hit the dance floor and show off your best moves as you dance to the music of The Mendocino Quartet and the opening act, The Green Fields. Not much of a dancer? That’s OK! Just bob along as you buy your tickets and wait to see if your number is called for the raffle or silent auction. Who knows – you could walk away with the best prize of the night!

Ring in the fall by attending this amazing event for an even better cause!

All-inclusive tickets are $45 and tickets for music and food only are just $25. To ensure your weekend stay is full of fun and exciting adventures, be sure to book a room at Cleone Gardens Inn and enjoy all that the Fort Bragg area has to offer!
